No self-priming ability can be installed under the liquid surface. A self-priming bucket must be installed to prevent the pump from being damaged due to dry running without water if installed on the liquid surface.

To prevent the inhalation of other substance a foot valve should be installed at the inlet. To prevent the instantaneous backflow phenomenon during shutdown, which will cause damage to the pump body and the pump idling a check valve should be installed at the outlet.
